E2U Ride

Sharing a car with somebody you have not met

What E2U checks, what both of you can see, and what to do if something goes wrong.

E2U does not employ or dispatch anybody. The person in the driver's seat is another member. Everything below exists because of that, not in spite of it.

What every member confirms

What a host clears before sharing a trip

Everything above is asked of everybody, Guest or Host. Nothing below it is asked of a Guest. Sharing a journey you are driving needs all of it, and E2U approves each one before a trip can be posted.

Driver's license
A photo or a PDF, front and back. It is also your ID, so you are never asked for a second card
Required
Vehicle registration
The car is yours to offer
Required
Insurance
The cover your state requires of you
Required
About insurance, said plainly E2U checks that your policy exists and is current. E2U does not insure your trip and cannot tell you what your own policy covers. Ask your insurer whether it allows you to share the costs of a journey with other people, because that is the arrangement you will be in.

Badges, which are optional

None of these is needed to host or to travel. When a member completes one it shows on their profile, and you can see it before you decide.

What you see before you agree to anything

Full names, email addresses and phone numbers are never shown to another member. Messages about a trip go through E2U rather than between phone numbers.

Both of you review each other

After a shared trip, each of you can review the other. Neither review is shown until both are in, or until the window closes. Nobody writes in reaction to what was written about them, which is the only way a rating means anything.

Women only matching

Verified women may choose to be matched only with other verified women. E2U does not decide who is a woman: it is part of verifying identity. A protection anybody could claim would protect nobody, which is why it is offered only once identity is confirmed.

E2U Safety Shield

Both phones. The whole trip. Not from an emergency. While a shared trip is active, E2U collects and securely transmits the location of both members' devices. It starts when the trip starts, because by the time somebody needs help there may be no chance to press anything.

Two devices, tracked separately. Neither of you controls the other's: if one phone goes quiet the other is still reporting, and that is the reason for tracking two of them rather than one.

Both of you accept it before the trip can start, on your own device, in these words:

What E2U cannot do, said as plainly as what it can E2U cannot guarantee a phone keeps reporting. A phone can be switched off, lose signal, or have location turned off in its own settings, and no software can prevent that. What E2U does is keep the last known position and the time it stopped, as part of the trip. A phone going quiet is not a gap in the record. It is part of it.

Ordinary trip locations are kept briefly and then deleted. Holding everybody's movements for ever is not a safety feature. A trail that belongs to an emergency is kept separately, for much longer, and is never deleted with the ordinary ones, because the minutes before an emergency are usually the useful ones.

The emergency button

Both people on a trip have it Not the guest alone. The host is not vetted staff and the guest is not a customer: they are two members, and whichever of them is frightened is the one who needs it.

It is on the trip screen while the trip is live. Press and hold it for one second, and that is the whole gesture. There is no "are you sure" afterwards: somebody being threatened has one hand and a few seconds, and the hold is what prevents a pocket press. Holding it:

What happens at E2U's end When you raise an emergency, E2U is alerted by email immediately, and if nobody at E2U has picked it up within 10 minutes the alert is also sent by text. E2U is staffed during business hours, Eastern time. E2U is not an emergency service: if anyone is in danger right now, call 911.

There is no button that ends an emergency. If you pressed it by accident you can tell E2U it was accidental, and that is recorded, but tracking continues and E2U still looks at it. A control that could make an emergency go away is a control somebody can be made to press.

It does not call anybody for you. No app can place that call on your behalf, and a button that implied help was already coming when nobody had been told would be worse than no button. If you are in danger, call the emergency services.

The other people on the trip are not told that you pressed it. If you are pressing it because of the person beside you, telling them is the last thing that should happen.

Trusted contacts

You can name up to five people for E2U to tell if you ever raise an emergency. They are told that you raised one and how to reach E2U. They are not sent anything on an ordinary trip, are not given a live map of you, and cannot end an emergency or stop location sharing. If E2U cannot reach one of them, nothing about the emergency changes.

Choose who E2U tells.

Reporting somebody

You can report anything that made you unsafe, during a trip or afterwards. E2U acts on reports, including by removing a member, and keeps the trip record. Write to info@e2uride.com at any time.

Simple things that help

Somebody is going your way

One account, a minute to make. Sharing a trip costs you nothing, and joining one costs only your share.
