Privacy Notice

What E2U collects, what it does with it, and what other members can see.

Version 8, published 26 October 2026. This is the wording members accept, and acceptance is recorded against this version and the time it was given.

E2U Ride privacy policy, covering e2uride.com and the E2U Ride app.

E2U Ride is one account for every member. There is no separate rider or driver account, so there is one set of information about you, whether you are hosting a trip or traveling on somebody else's.

WHAT WE COLLECT FROM EVERY MEMBER

Your name, email address, mobile number, a photograph of your own face which other members see before they travel with you, and the government issued identity document used to verify you, which is handled by our identity verification provider. E2U stores the provider's decision and its reference, not the document itself.

The journeys you post or ask about, including where you are starting, where you are going and roughly when, the trips you shared, what each one cost, what you contributed or recovered, your reviews, and the messages you exchanged with the members you traveled with.

Your payment details, which are held by our payment processor and not by E2U. E2U stores the card brand and the last four digits so you can tell your cards apart.

HOW OLD YOU HAVE TO BE, AND WHAT WE HOLD ABOUT IT

E2U Ride is for members aged 21 and over. When you signed up you were asked to confirm that you are, and E2U recorded that you confirmed it, the date, and the minimum age in force that day. Raising the minimum later does not rewrite what you were asked.

Where an app store tells E2U an age range for the account that downloaded the app, E2U records that range, which store said it, and when. Texas law requires an app store to establish an age category and requires E2U to act on it. E2U holds the RANGE and not your date of birth.

If the range an app store reports is entirely below 21, your membership on E2U ends and the reason is recorded. If the range spans 21, for example "18 and over", it does not say either way and nothing is taken away from you.

A host sends a driver's license, and that document carries a date of birth. That is held as part of the clearance record described below, for the period in the retention table.

WHAT WE COLLECT WHEN YOU HOST

The vehicle you share trips in: its year, make, model, color, plate and the running cost class you selected, which is what the cost of a journey is worked out from.

Your driver's license, a photograph of you holding it, your vehicle registration and your insurance documents. These are reviewed by E2U before you can share a trip, and they are held securely and shown to no other member. If you choose to add optional verification we also hold the status and decision for a background check or a driving record check, and the documents uploaded for them.

PRECISE LOCATION, AND ADDRESSES

Precise location is sensitive information and E2U treats it that way.

E2U may collect and geocode a precise street address, current location or other specific origin and destination information to calculate route compatibility. Matching is based primarily on geographic coordinates and actual route compatibility, not city names alone. Before a match is confirmed, E2U may show another Member an approximate area, distance or route compatibility rather than your complete street address. Exact pickup or meeting information may be disclosed after a match when reasonably necessary to complete the Shared Trip.

ACTIVE TRIP LOCATION

During an active Shared Trip, E2U collects precise location from the Host's and Guest's devices for trip routing, safety, trip status information and Safety Shield. Location is collected independently from each participating device.

You are asked to consent to this on the screen where a Shared Trip begins, separately from these terms. Outside an active Shared Trip, and outside the moments when you are posting a trip or searching for one, no location is collected. There is no online or available state to be in.

ALERTS ON YOUR PHONE, AND THE IDENTIFIER THAT MAKES THEM POSSIBLE

If you install the E2U Ride app and turn alerts on, the app asks Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging for an identifier for that phone, and sends it to E2U. It identifies the INSTALL, not you and not the handset: reinstalling the app produces a different one.

E2U holds it so that an alert can be delivered to that phone, and for nothing else. It is not an advertising identifier, E2U does not have one of those, and it is used for no profiling, analytics or advertising of any kind.

To deliver an alert, E2U gives that identifier and the words of the alert to Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is the service that delivers it. E2U holds one record per phone you have signed in on, and you can see how many on your notification settings. SIGNING OUT REMOVES EVERY ONE OF THEM from your account, and so does turning alerts off. If the same phone is signed in to a different account, the identifier moves with the phone and stops being yours.

Nothing about this happens in a browser: a browser cannot receive one of these alerts, so there is no identifier to hold.

HOW WE USE IT

To find members whose journeys overlap, to work out how the cost of a journey is shared and what each person contributes, to take payments and pass contributions on, to verify who members are, to keep members safe, to answer support and incident reports, to meet legal duties and to prevent fraud. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for third party advertising.

WHAT OTHER MEMBERS SEE

Before you are connected, the other member sees your first name, your photograph, your standing on E2U and your reviews. A host's vehicle is shown to the people joining their trip. Full names, email addresses and phone numbers are not shown to other members. Messages go through E2U.

WHO ELSE WE SHARE IT WITH

The providers that run the service, meaning payments, maps, notifications, hosting, identity verification and, where a member asks for an optional badge, background screening. And authorities, where the law requires it.

SAFETY SHIELD

Safety Shield is the tracking that runs during a shared trip. Both you and the other members on the trip accept it before the trip can begin, and it is described to you on the screen where you accept it.

While a trip is running, your phone reports your position, your speed, your direction, your battery level, whether you are charging, your connection type and whether you have given the app permission to use your location. The host's phone and each guest's phone report separately. Neither controls the other's. If a phone stops reporting, the time it stopped and the last thing it reported are recorded, because silence during a trip is itself a fact worth keeping.

E2U cannot keep a phone reporting. A phone can be switched off, lose signal, run out of battery, have its location permission withdrawn, or be destroyed. Safety Shield records what happened and when. It does not prevent it.

EMERGENCY MODE

If either Member activates Emergency SOS, E2U may place both participating devices into Emergency Mode and attempt to continue collecting and preserving available location and trip safety information until the emergency is resolved. Location availability may be interrupted by device settings, operating system restrictions, loss of power, damaged hardware, lack of network service or other conditions outside E2U's control.

During an emergency, E2U may disclose reasonably necessary trip, identity, vehicle and location information to emergency service providers, law enforcement or the Member's designated Trusted Contacts when permitted or required by law.

Emergency SOS can initiate E2U's emergency workflow and, where supported by the Member's device and E2U's emergency service integrations, assist the Member in contacting emergency services and transmitting available safety information. E2U cannot guarantee uninterrupted communications, continuous location availability, or emergency response times. In an immediate emergency, call 911 when you are able to do so.

WHO CAN SEE A SAFETY SHIELD RECORD

No other member can see your trail. The people on your trip see that tracking is on and whether each device is still reporting, not where anybody is. E2U staff see a trail when an emergency is raised or an incident is reported, and every time a document or a trail is opened it is written to the audit record with the name of the person who opened it. If you have added trusted contacts and asked for them to be told, they are told when you raise an emergency.

TRUSTED CONTACTS

A Trusted Contact is somebody you nominate to be told if you raise an emergency. You give E2U their name, your relationship to them, and an email address or a phone number or both. You can add up to five and you can remove any of them at any time.

The person you nominate is not an E2U Member and has not agreed to any of this. E2U holds what you gave it about them and nothing else: it does not look them up, enrich it, or use it for anything other than reaching them in the situation you nominated them for. They are never sent anything on an ordinary trip.

When you raise an emergency they are told, by email and by text where E2U has those details, that you raised an emergency, the reference number, and to call 911 if they believe anyone is in danger. They are NOT sent your position, a map, a link to your trip, the name of anybody else on it, or anything about the vehicle. They cannot end the emergency, stop location sharing, or change anything about your trip.

When you raise an emergency, E2U is alerted by email immediately, and if nobody at E2U has picked it up within 10 minutes the alert is also sent by text. E2U is staffed during business hours, Eastern time. E2U is not an emergency service: if anyone is in danger right now, call 911.

What E2U holds about a Trusted Contact is deleted when you remove them, and when you delete your account.

HOW LONG A SAFETY SHIELD RECORD IS KEPT

An ordinary trip's trail is deleted after 14 days. Keeping everybody's movements indefinitely is not a safety feature.

A trail connected to an emergency is kept for 5 years and then deleted. That is long enough to outlast a proceeding that would need it, and it has an end, because keeping something for ever is not a retention policy.

The record that you accepted Safety Shield, and the wording you accepted, is kept for as long as the emergency window above, because it is the evidence of what you agreed to.

The separate location history attached to a trip itself is deleted after 180 days.

DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT

You can delete your account in the app or at e2uride.com/account/delete.

When you delete your account, E2U will delete or de identify personal data that it no longer needs, subject to applicable law. Certain information may be retained where reasonably necessary for payment and tax records, fraud prevention, security, legal claims, regulatory obligations, safety investigations, emergency incidents and audit records. Information retained for these purposes will not be used for unrelated purposes.

HOW LONG EACH KIND OF RECORD IS KEPT

Ordinary Safety Shield trail from a trip 14 days Trail connected to an emergency 5 years Trip location history 180 days Completed trip records 7 years Payment records 7 years Identity verification records 3 years Vehicle documents 3 years Messages between members about a trip 2 years Support conversations 3 years Backups containing deleted accounts 3 months Audit records of who opened what 7 years

Where a period above is longer than it needs to be for a particular record, E2U deletes or de identifies it sooner. Where the law requires E2U to hold something longer, it is held without your name attached wherever that is possible.

YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask E2U for a copy of the personal information it holds about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to receive it in a portable form. Some of these rights have exceptions set by law, and E2U will tell you if one applies to your request. Write to info@e2uride.com and E2U will answer.
