Safety and Location Notice

Where location is used, who can see it, and for how long it is kept.

Part of the Privacy Notice, version 8, published 26 October 2026. These are the same words, under their own heading.

PRECISE LOCATION, AND ADDRESSES

Precise location is sensitive information and E2U treats it that way.

E2U may collect and geocode a precise street address, current location or other specific origin and destination information to calculate route compatibility. Matching is based primarily on geographic coordinates and actual route compatibility, not city names alone. Before a match is confirmed, E2U may show another Member an approximate area, distance or route compatibility rather than your complete street address. Exact pickup or meeting information may be disclosed after a match when reasonably necessary to complete the Shared Trip.

ACTIVE TRIP LOCATION

During an active Shared Trip, E2U collects precise location from the Host's and Guest's devices for trip routing, safety, trip status information and Safety Shield. Location is collected independently from each participating device.

You are asked to consent to this on the screen where a Shared Trip begins, separately from these terms. Outside an active Shared Trip, and outside the moments when you are posting a trip or searching for one, no location is collected. There is no online or available state to be in.

SAFETY SHIELD

Safety Shield is the tracking that runs during a shared trip. Both you and the other members on the trip accept it before the trip can begin, and it is described to you on the screen where you accept it.

While a trip is running, your phone reports your position, your speed, your direction, your battery level, whether you are charging, your connection type and whether you have given the app permission to use your location. The host's phone and each guest's phone report separately. Neither controls the other's. If a phone stops reporting, the time it stopped and the last thing it reported are recorded, because silence during a trip is itself a fact worth keeping.

E2U cannot keep a phone reporting. A phone can be switched off, lose signal, run out of battery, have its location permission withdrawn, or be destroyed. Safety Shield records what happened and when. It does not prevent it.

EMERGENCY MODE

If either Member activates Emergency SOS, E2U may place both participating devices into Emergency Mode and attempt to continue collecting and preserving available location and trip safety information until the emergency is resolved. Location availability may be interrupted by device settings, operating system restrictions, loss of power, damaged hardware, lack of network service or other conditions outside E2U's control.

During an emergency, E2U may disclose reasonably necessary trip, identity, vehicle and location information to emergency service providers, law enforcement or the Member's designated Trusted Contacts when permitted or required by law.

Emergency SOS can initiate E2U's emergency workflow and, where supported by the Member's device and E2U's emergency service integrations, assist the Member in contacting emergency services and transmitting available safety information. E2U cannot guarantee uninterrupted communications, continuous location availability, or emergency response times. In an immediate emergency, call 911 when you are able to do so.

WHO CAN SEE A SAFETY SHIELD RECORD

No other member can see your trail. The people on your trip see that tracking is on and whether each device is still reporting, not where anybody is. E2U staff see a trail when an emergency is raised or an incident is reported, and every time a document or a trail is opened it is written to the audit record with the name of the person who opened it. If you have added trusted contacts and asked for them to be told, they are told when you raise an emergency.

TRUSTED CONTACTS

A Trusted Contact is somebody you nominate to be told if you raise an emergency. You give E2U their name, your relationship to them, and an email address or a phone number or both. You can add up to five and you can remove any of them at any time.

The person you nominate is not an E2U Member and has not agreed to any of this. E2U holds what you gave it about them and nothing else: it does not look them up, enrich it, or use it for anything other than reaching them in the situation you nominated them for. They are never sent anything on an ordinary trip.

When you raise an emergency they are told, by email and by text where E2U has those details, that you raised an emergency, the reference number, and to call 911 if they believe anyone is in danger. They are NOT sent your position, a map, a link to your trip, the name of anybody else on it, or anything about the vehicle. They cannot end the emergency, stop location sharing, or change anything about your trip.

When you raise an emergency, E2U is alerted by email immediately, and if nobody at E2U has picked it up within 10 minutes the alert is also sent by text. E2U is staffed during business hours, Eastern time. E2U is not an emergency service: if anyone is in danger right now, call 911.

What E2U holds about a Trusted Contact is deleted when you remove them, and when you delete your account.

HOW LONG A SAFETY SHIELD RECORD IS KEPT

An ordinary trip's trail is deleted after 14 days. Keeping everybody's movements indefinitely is not a safety feature.

A trail connected to an emergency is kept for 5 years and then deleted. That is long enough to outlast a proceeding that would need it, and it has an end, because keeping something for ever is not a retention policy.

The record that you accepted Safety Shield, and the wording you accepted, is kept for as long as the emergency window above, because it is the evidence of what you agreed to.

The separate location history attached to a trip itself is deleted after 180 days.
